The Ubuntu team is very pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
(Long-Term Support) for Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core products.

Codenamed "Precise Pangolin", 12.04 continues Ubuntu's proud tradition
of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a
high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution. The team has been hard
at work through this cycle, introducing a few new features and improving
quality control.

To be a bit more precise about what we're releasing today...
There are 54 product images and 2 cloud images being shipped with
this 12.04 LTS release, with translations available in 41 languages.
The Ubuntu project's 12.04 archive currently has 39,226 binary packages
in it, built from 19,179 source packages, so lots of good starting points
for your imagination!

For PC users, Ubuntu 12.04 supports laptops, desktops, and netbooks
with a unified look and feel based on an updated version of the desktop
shell called "Unity", which introduces "Head-Up Display" search capabilities.
Finding and installing software using the Ubuntu Software Centre is
now easier thanks to improvements in speed, search and usability.

Ubuntu Server 12.04 has made it much easier to provision, deploy,
host, manage, and orchestrate enterprise data centre infrastructure
services with the introduction of new technologies such as "Metal as
a Service" (MAAS), the Juju Charm Store, and the latest OpenStack version,
codenamed Essex. These technologies further position Ubuntu Server
as the best OS for scale-out computing.

Long term support maintenance updates will be provided for
Ubuntu 12.04 for five years, through April 2017. For those working
on the ARM architecture, an 18 month supported release is also
provided for the ARM server using the ARM Hard Float (HF) architecture.

Thanks to the efforts of the global translation community, Ubuntu

Allora, la release disponibile sul sito di Ubuntu, come ogni volta, contiene solo alcune determinate lingue (inglese, francese, tedesco, ecc.), ma non l'italiana, che viene scaricata in fase d'installazione. Tuttavia, da questa LTS verrà rilasciata anche una versione localizzata in italiano ufficiale.

A girare gira,ma bisogna vedere appena apri un programma come reagisce

guarda farbix, con l'ultima versione di ubuntu la 11.10, non riuscivo neanche a farlo girare in live, per quello son passato a xubuntu, anche se ogni tanto mi si bloccava, o meglio rallentava ma non so perché, ma dato che c'è la lts di xubuntu, passo a quella,forse è meglio

Ho provato un pochino la live: l'ambiente grafico mi spiazza parecchio, ma credo che si possano mettere le mani abbastanza a fondo per modificarlo. Altrimenti mi vado a rileggere la mega guida di farbix sull' "assemblaggio" del DE.

Non seguire ogni passaggio della guida,ormai ha fatto tutto Canonical: installa solo la superbar,i tasti finestra massimizzati e i programmi aggiuntivi

C'è sempre l'ancora di salvataggio: KDE. Prova Kubuntu 12.04 e fidati che non rimpiangerai di averlo fatto

Anzi forse è arrivato il momento buono per ottimizzarla con alcune chicche che ho testato in questi mesi,forse la riaggiorno

è una scelta saggia, i passaggi indicati nella prima pagina vanno rivisti (uno dei pacchetti è già presente) mentre il menu contestuale (ALT+mouse DX) non compare ed entrambe le barre sono "prive di vita" senza alcuna possibilità di modifica, almeno così accade nel mio portatile.

Con l'attivazione di Compiz Alt+Clic destro è utilizzato appunto da quest'ultimo per mostrare il menu finestra.

Con Compiz attivo la scorciatoia diventa SUPER(Windows LOGO)+ALT+clic destro

A me unity alla fine non entusiasma per niente e neppure gnome-shell, preferisco mate dato che è molto somigliante al vecchio aspetto e non mi sembra proprio il caso di stravolgere tutto in nome di un presunto miglioramento dell'usabilità e maggiore praticità che poi alla fine io non ho visto.
Almeno sui pc normali, chi avesse qualcosa di touch forse potrei anche dare ragione, ma per chi usa mouse e tastiera non vedo motivo di esistere di queste nuove interfacce.

Io ho installato kubuntu 12.04 già dalla 11.10, unity non mi piace per niente. questa nuova versione di kubuntu è stata migliorata molto. è molto più reattiva delle vecchie versioni. Sul portatile ho avuto problemi anche io ad installarlo ma cercando su internet ho scoperto che è un problema con la scheda di rete broadcom che tra l'altro è un bug che era stato segnalato già da diverso tempo e allora mi chiedo come mai non abbiano risolto questo bug anche perché molti cosi' non lo installeranno nemmeno. Comunque su internet si trova come fare per aggirare il problema.
