While scanning with Ad-aware, it may freeze while scanning the System folder.
This is a confirmed problem with Ad-aware 6 Build 181. However, it does not affect all users, and the steps provided in the Resolution section should only be performed by those who are affected by the issue in the Symptom section.
Create an empty folder in the System folder, unselect it from the scanned folders setting, and then restart the computer.
To unselect a folder from scanning, at the main Ad-aware window, click the Gear icon. Then click Scanning. Then click "Click here to select drives + folders." Navigate the directory tree until you find the subfolder you created, and uncheck it from scanning.
Click Proceed, then click Proceed again. Then close Ad-aware and restart your computer. Once complete, open Ad-aware and scan again.
You may also experience freezing in other folders. The instructions in this Knowledge Base article can be applied to those folders. Substitute the folder which Ad-aware is freezing on for System in the instructions provided in the Resolution section.
