dubbi e domande su Ubuntu 11.10

Ho da poco installato Ubuntu versione 11.10 32 bit sul mio notebook in dual boot con windows 7 64 bit.
Al centro di grub ci sono due voci "memory test" servono o si possono eliminare? se si come?
Posso importare direttamente dati in Ubuntu presenti in Windows ( filmati, musica, foto, documenti) o devo per forza salvarli su qualche supporto e poi reboot?
Sto cercando un programma per fare screenshoot ( in caso di necessità)
Tasto destro sulla scrivania-cambia sfondo scrivania-tasto + aggiungo le foto imposto uno sfondo, ma la volta successiva sono sparite le devo riaggiungere, non so perché, e poi mi piacerebbe che le immagini cambiassero automaticamente dopo un tot di tempo ( come avviene su win per capirci)
I pulsanti dei numeri della tastiera in alto funzionanano ma quelli del tastierino in parte a destra no.
Ho letto tutto e il contrario di tutto sul firewall e non ho capito niente : c'è un firewall integrato? Funziona bene o fa pietà come quella di Win? Va configurato o no e se si serve un software interfaccia o meglio uno di terze parti?
Mi fermo qua per ora, spero di essermi spiegata bene e grazie a chi vorrà rispondermi.

Perché se hai windows a 64 bit (questo presuppone che tu abbia più di 4GB di ram) hai installato ubuntu a 32 bit?
Per importarli basta entrare nel disco dove è installato windows e fare copia incolla in quello in cui è installato ubuntu.
Per fare screenshoot basta il tasto stamp.
Non serve firewall o antivirus, per ora...

Allora, per il memtest basta editare il /boot/grub/grub.cfg da root (apri il terminale dai il comando sudo gedit /boot/grub/grub.cfg) e togli dalla riga dopo

Per copiare i dati di windows basta aprire il file manager, entrare nella partizione di win e fare copiaincolla. Per gli screenshot basta premer stamp. Antivirus o firewall non servono. Per il testierino, la spia num lock è accesa? Per gli sfondi non mi ricordo...

1. Prova a copiare le foto in /usr/share/backgrounds (da root, quindi terminale ---> sudo nautilus)

Ho letto sull'altro thread che lo preferisci alla versione 12.04 LTS, come mai? Sarebbe meglio usare quest'ultima che offre un supporto di ben 3 anni essendo una LTS (Long Term Support)

Sono le due voci per il controllo della memoria di sistema integrato nel kernel, se vuoi eliminarle segui la guida postata da gigicookie, ma non ti consiglio di farlo visto che possono servire

Ubuntu possiede preinstallato il driver ntfs-3g, che consente di montare, esplorare, copiare, incollare ed eliminare files da partizioni NTFS Windows correttamente. Basta che dal file manager Nautilus apri la partizione contenente Windows per poter accedere a tutti i files

E' già presente di default nella distro, cerca Schermata nel menù di Unity

Al momento sono su Windows, quindi non ricordo, aspetta che passi qualcun'altro per avere una risposta più esaustiva
EDIT: per il cambio dello sfondo dopo un tot, puoi usare desktopnova, cercalo nell'Ubuntu Software Center

E' presente un firewall integrato, che però è disattivato di default. Va attivato e configurato o via terminale, o via alcune interfacce grafiche scaricabili da Ubuntu Software Center. Comunque su Linux non è un componente indispensabile, puoi anche lasciare perdere

Per il firewall non ho ancora le idee chiare: c'è ma non è attivo , va attivato, ma forse non serve ....che casino..
Non ho installato la 12 perché l'ho vista su un pc di un amico con le mie stesse caratteristiche e mi sembrava lento come un pachiderma.
Ho installato la versione 32 bit per il semplice motivo che sul sito di Ubuntu è raccomandata , non so cosa comporta comunque va benissimo ed è un fulmine....Windows

Non ho capito perché windows ha bisogno di un firewall possibilmente uno potente di terze parti (come Comodo, che devo andare a sistemare e rivedere un po' poveretto ) e configurato alla massima potenza possibilmente, mentre linux no, ma se per capirlo servono delle capacità e delle conoscenze informatiche molto elevate, che io non ho, allora come dici tu lascio perdere.
Comunque non mi collego mai a reti pubbliche ma solo al router di casa e quando sono in giro alla chiavetta internet ( in questo secondo caso ?)
Visto che mi piace molto questa versione di ubuntu , io lascerei questa per ora per non rischiare di perdere la passione che mi sta prendendo.

Allora: il firewall direi che non ti serve se usi la chiavetta internet, poichè sei comunque l' unica connessa alla rete. Al posto di ccleaner puoi usare bleachbit, oppure ubuntu tweak. c'è anche un pulitore integrato ma non so quanto sia efficace. Tipo speccy c'è hardinfo (con me non riesce a vedere la temperatura, ma magari dipende dal pc). Per la stampante prova ad aggiungerla da Stampanti oppure installa hplip così hai più possibilità di gestione (c'è una guida su MLI). Se scarichi degli exe sotto linux e gli lasci nella partizione ext4, no problem tanto windows nativamente non legge ext4 (a meno di usare tool specifici e qui arriva il problema). Se invece leggi ext4 con dei tool oppure scarichi degli exe da linux nella partizione windows è consigliabile scansionare i file prima di eseguirli

E' sempre tutto legato al fattore sicurezza: mentre su Windows il firewall è uno strumento utilizzo per bloccare connessioni in entrata ed uscita potenzialmente pericolose (quelle dei malware, per intenderci), su GNU/Linux essendoci pochissimi software malevoli ed essendoci moltissime protezioni preventive sul sistema (accesso di default come utente limitato, ad esempio), non è necessario attivare quello integrato, che comunque può monitorare tutte le connessioni in entrata ed in uscita

C'è un similCCleaner per linux e serve?

Esiste e si chiama BleachBit, ma su Linux, a meno che non vuoi ripulire le tracce lasciate dalla navigazione coi browser, è abbastanza superfluo usarlo

Teoricamente appena colleghi il dispositivo al pc, Ubuntu dovrebbe caricarne i driver ed attivare la periferica per l'utilizzo con i vari software (LibreOffice, Shotwell, ecc.), visto che solitamente le periferiche HP sono totalmente riconosciute dal kernel. Se non fosse così, uscirà l'avviso di Driver Aggiuntivi che ti chiederà di installare il driver mancante. Per gestire in maniera avanzata le periferiche HP, puoi usare l'ottimo hplip (guida MLI)

Grazie mille ragazzi seguirò i vostri consigli e vi farò sapere.
Oggi purtroppo ho scoperto un problema che non riesco a risolvere: la funzione sospendi mi manda ko il sistema operativo o la scheda grafica o entrambi non so.
Nelle impostazioni ho che abbassando lo schermo ( del notebook) è attiva la funzione sospendi, quindi abbasso lo schermo e il pc si sospende, quando lo riapro non si avvia più , schermo nero,le lucine della tastiera si accendono la ventola riparte...sembra che riparta ma lo schermo rimane sempre nero, anche se lo spengo forzatamente con il tasto di accensione e poi lo riaccendo lo schermo ( e forse il s.o.) non riparte più e devo: spegnere, staccare il cavo di alimentazione e la batteria, aspettare una decina di secondi, rimettere batteria e cavo e poi tasto di accensione e finalmente riparte.
La stessa cosa se clicco in alto a destra tasto destro-sospendi.
ho provato a fare questa cosa con windows , tutto ok, dunque non credo sia un problema di hardware o altro, forse c'è qualche impostazione di Ubuntu che va modificata.
Non so se mi sono spiegata.
