Live-action film
In March 2002, 20th Century Fox acquired feature film rights to the Dragon Ball franchise.[2] In June 2004, Variety magazine reported that 20th Century Fox hired screenwriter Ben Ramsey for $500,000 to adapt a screenplay for Dragon Ball Z,[3] but the official Dragon Ball Z site reported the news as unconfirmed.[4] In September 2007, the Montreal Gazette reported that Dragon Ball Z would be filmed in Montreal in the coming year with a budget of over $100 million,[5] but the studio informed IGN that the report was not confirmed as start dates and locations for the project had not been finalized.[6] Mexican newspaper El Norte has reported that 20th Century Fox will film 85% of the movie in Durango, Mexico, under the direction of James Wong. The production, expected to begin in 2008, plans to use the Mexiquillo Forest, Marley Ranch, Hacienda la Providencia, La Joya Ranch, Laguna Seca de Santiaguillo, and a forum from a convention center in the Institute of Culture. The sets will be constructed in November 2007 and shooting will begin in January 2008 and last through March, however, the movie cannot be filmed completely in Durango, and will move to Estado De México for some shots at Nevado de Toluca.[7]
