Killit file deleter - readme

Due to high demand, I decided to remake this program and recompile it under win2k so that it works on more platforms. The other one was crappy MFC programming from a few years back which was compiled on win98 and it was later on brought up that it did not work on win2k and xp. The program itself is much more simple then the first version, but I believe that functionality is better then bling-bling.

For the corporate version, simply enter the paths in the corp_files.txt file and it will read that file once when it starts up and keep trying to delete the files, so if the files in the list are created, they will be deleted unless in use, but it will keep trying until no longer in use.

This is easy to tamper with, however, so I recommend you put it on a server that has access to all the workstation files with write access. That way naughty users can't tamper with it. This can be good for schools and such to stop students from downloading certain files, or from installing certain files. For example, if people keep installing a game instead of doing their work, find out the filename of one of the required dlls and add it to the list, so even if they go install it in a different path, it won't run! For less smart people, you can simply add the name of the setup file in the file list. "Sir I keep downloading a file for my project but it disappears!"

Note that you must use full paths such as c:\windows\desktop\setup.exe and each one has to have a return (press enter) at the end, even the last entry.

The personal version works the same way, but alerts you when it successfully deletes a file in the list, and stops trying, and the program shuts off once all files are deleted. That way if you have a stubborn file, just type it in the list and run the program and it will close afterwards. If you have a bunch of stubborn files, add them all in so it can try them all at once. Once all files are gone, the program exits.

Basically the only main difference between both is that the corporate is best fit for administrators that want to stop certain files from appearing on the network/workstations, and have it run in stealth mode so users don't know it's there, while the personal is best fit for someone having trouble deleting a file.

Note that this program is not doing anything different then just deleting, what makes it useful is the fact that it keeps trying about 10 times per second per file, so eventually it will get it deleted. Saves you from trying it manually. Rebooting the computer often solves these problems, but sometimes you don't want to reboot. :) This program has also been tested and should not degrade system performance, using 10 dummy files, cpu usage never went higher then 0!

I hope this program will help you out!

I don't ask anything for this, but the only thing I do ask is that you consider joining my forum at http://www.iceteks.com/forums/ as we really want more activity. Heck, if we get many fans I can dedicate a section for this software and make it much better such as add the ability to add entire folders and stuff. At this moment I just felt the need to supply the demand for the other one that is old and outdated with this simple but better version.

History
Killit's history ages way back before IceTeks, my main site. I used to run a software site called Reliexec, I programmed small applications from utilities to prank software, and killit and prank pack were the two most successful. Programming slowly stopped interesting me as I got busy with Iceteks, but I got more into php programming and now I know more php then C++!

I had online enemies, unfortunately (and still do but they are pretty much dealt with <_>) and one of them reported our server to our isp. Now IceTeks is on a real host, but we cannot host this on the same host due to ToS reasons (no applications allowed) and bandwidth.

If you have questions about the software, you know where to ask. :)
